Our own extremely low-mileage Model S 85D received a serious upgrade today.
A ten-year-old car that looks almost new underneath
With just 35,000 miles on the clock, this car is about as close to factory fresh underneath as you will see on a ten-year-old Tesla.
The upgrade: an 85kWh pack out, a 2023-spec 100kWh pack in
We removed the original 85kWh battery pack and replaced it with a much newer 2023-specification 100kWh pack.
The newer pack brings three clear benefits:
- more usable capacity, so more range on every charge
- significantly improved charging performance compared with the original 85kWh pack
- a newer pack, built years after the car itself
And it keeps its free Supercharging
This car has SC01, Tesla's code for free unlimited Supercharging. That is a valuable feature on an older Model S, and the battery upgrade keeps it.
So the result is a nice upgrade all round: more range, faster charging, and the free Supercharging still in place.
